Galushki

Spicy, filling, delicious are the Ukrainian pan fried flour dumplings. You can make them yourself easily and quickly with a few ingredients with this recipe. The galushki are ideal as a warm vegetarian main meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 150 ml milk
  • approx. 230 g flour**
  • 1/3 tsp salt

Instructions

  • Whisk eggs with salt in a mixing bowl.
  • Add milk and mix.
  • Add flour in portions and mix, for example with a fork, to form a viscous dough.
  • Let the galushki dough rest at room temperature while you prepare onions.
  • Peel onions, chop them finely, fry them in a deep pan in vegetable oil until lightly golden brown and take them off the heat first.
  • Bring plenty of salted water to a boil in a saucepan.
  • Dip a clean tablespoon into the boiling water, then take about 1/4 tablespoon of dough and add it to the boiling water. Repeat the procedure until the dough is used up.
  • Cook the galushki for about 5 - 10 minutes until they are done.
  • Take the galushki out of the water with a slotted spoon, drain them and add them to the fried onions in the pan.
  • Fry the galushki at high heat, stirring constantly, for about 3 - 5 minutes, seasoning with salt, pepper and garlic powder.

Notes

  • The amount of flour indicated may vary. Gradually add flour to the egg-milk mixture until a viscous dough is formed.
